Well, as most of you know, we ended back at the hospital shortly after our first adventure. Masie was admitted to Scottish Rite for a few days due to a high white blood cell count (almost 30,000!) and a CRP (for you medical people) of 12! Poor thing had a pretty high fever and felt horrible. They had a hard time with the IV start, and even one of those got infiltrated. Heath and I felt terrible for her. She got stuck over and over and was none to happy about it, as you may well imagine. When they dropped a nasal gastric tube, I left Heath holding her, and I sobbed in the bathroom. I am sure this was most unhelpful.
We are home now. Thank God! At least she isn’t getting stuck anymore, and we have a big bed to sleep in. Since she has been sick, she had wanted to be close at night. They never found out what exactly was wrong. So, we just hope that it doesn’t (whatever it might have been) come back.
Garland and Chris brought us dinner last night (delicious chili and cornbread), and Shannon brought dinner for tonight. This is wonderful because I am just so overtired. It has been raining the last few days in Atlanta. Gray and wet outside…. But it is cozy in here, and we made a fire last night.
Our friends and neighbors, Nancy and Kevin had their baby a couple of days ago. YEA!!!!! Her name is Harper, and I hear she has reddish hair and long feet!
Elizabeth Dressler’s dad died a few days ago after a battle with cancer. He was with his family when he passed. Elizabeth is still in Roanoke I think. I spoke to her, and she is having a hard time. I remember Lila’s death, how no one can say anything that takes the pain away, but it helps to call and comfort. A professor of mine from Emory called this “sitting on the mourning bench with someone.” Just a presence helps. So, if you read this and know her, call……. Belle, if you are reading this, know that I love you and am thinking about you every day.
Masie is so funny now. She “claps” in the oddest ways. She keeps her right hand palm down and perfectly still and hits that hand with her left. It is funny to see. Also, she is kissing a lot. Apparently, Heath did this as a child. Masie adored her dad and often will cry if he walks away. I love this. When I see them together, I feel complete.
Nothing else to report really. I just want Masie to rest and stay well.
I am sending my love to all of you. Enjoy Thanksgiving!
Marie
