update
Great news!!!! started off scary... Blythe managed to extubate herself (pull her own breathing tube out). They all rushed in (Garland was there-I was pacing in the outside hall unable to be helpful to anyone). It ended up that she did not need to reintubated. They put her on a type of cpap (blowing O2 focefully through her nose), and she is doing well by herself. In fact, they let her take a bottle and may let me breastfeed in the next couple of days.
We are still looking at 3-5 days here, but I am so amazingly thankful- so happy and relieved. They all remind me that she is still sick, but she IS heading in the right direction. Thank God. I have never prayed and bargained more in my life.
I have talked to many other parents in the PICU. A single dad whose child is dying of a rare bone disorder, a mom whose daughter was trampled by a horse- all devastating circumstances. People who are strong and wonderful parents, and it has inspired me in some intrinsic way. I have such a good life.
I appreciate all the calls, emails, the offers for food and help, all of your love and prayers.
Marie
